A young street magician is left to take care of his little sister after his mother's passing and turns to drug dealing in the Los Angeles party scene to keep a roof over their heads. When he gets into trouble with his supplier, his sister is kidnapped and he is forced to rely on both his sleight of hand and brilliant mind to save her。故事发生在清乾隆青少年时期。雍正帝（寇振海 饰）自感时日无多，组织幕僚们考査众皇子，生性坦诚的四阿哥弘历（袁弘 饰）把在上书房所学知识全盘端出，不料，他的直言能谏惹怒了雍正，而善于察言观色的三阿哥（史林 饰）通过走感情路线赢得了父皇的喜欢。本来想立弘历为储的雍正态度上发生了改变，加之弘历犯错，储位岌岌可危。三阿哥和五阿哥（艾东 饰）为谋取储位，明里暗里对弘历使了不少诡计，宫中对储位的争夺日渐白热化，弘历被迫两次离开上书房。 性情正直刚毅的弘历并没有因此改变人性中最基本的道德良知，仍坚持坦诚、仁厚的做人处事理念，最终赢得了父皇和众臣的叹服......。
