ある資材置き場で刺殺体が発見される。被害者は地元で細々とスナックを経営する20代女性。ほどなく19歳の青年が殺人及び死体遺棄の容疑で逮捕された。青年の弁護は、ある裁判を機に過去にとらわれ、“真実”に背を向けた元裁判官の弁護士・菊地大三郎（椎名桔平）に託された。青年の自白もあり、すぐに判決が下る単純な裁判だと思われたが、検察での取り調べから⼀転、裁判で青年は殺意を否認する。青年のことを調べるうちに、再び“真実”と対峙する菊地。やがて法廷では意外な事実が次々と露見し、裁く者を惑わせる。果たして青年は、本当に「人殺し」なのか――― 。。A telegram has just arrived ant the Persichette home in Italy.
