1968年法国学运前夕，孪生姐弟伊莎贝拉（伊娃•格林）和雷奥（路易斯•加瑞尔）因为电影，与来自美国的留学生马休（迈克尔•皮特）成为好朋友。姐弟两人将马休带到家中做客时，马休得到两人同是大学教授的父母的喜爱，住进他们家中，慢慢地，他喜欢上伊莎贝拉。 学运开始后大学停课，三个年轻人因无所事事在房间里玩起有关电影导演和台词的游戏，游戏进行当中，伊莎贝拉知晓马休对她有意思，联合雷奥要求马休与她做爱，自此，由于父母出门度假，三人开始了如伊甸园般的日子，马休也慢慢发现伊莎贝拉和雷奥有不伦恋情，三人关系开始发生微妙的变化，而外面正如火如荼进行着的学运，似乎与他们无关。。马锡五曾任陕甘宁边区政府专员、陕甘宁边区高等法院陇东分庭庭长、高等法院院长等。他在陇东工作期间，改变旧的衙门官老爷式的审判作风，走群众路线，以调解为主，受到群众的爱戴和拥护，被称为“马青天”，毛泽东在延安亲笔给他题词：“一刻也不要脱离群众”。 剧中涉及的案件均以历史上的真实案例为基础，特别是刘巧儿婚姻纠纷一案(解放初由新凤霞主演的著名评剧《刘巧儿》据此创作)，被称为“近代八大奇案之一”，此案经过马锡五审理后，并提出自由恋爱和婚姻自主，在陕甘宁边区引起了一场婚姻革命。。In this bitingly satirical film Peter Slovan, a continuous source of trouble for the film functionaries of the socialist Slovakia, tackles an evergreen topic – the corruptive effects of power. Barnabáš Kos, a triangle player at a symphonic orchestra, is suddenly promoted to serve as the head of the said institution, even though both he and his superiors deem him completely unfit for the task. Encouraged in equal parts by this unexpected recognition and the servile praise of his colleagues, Kos’s modesty starts to gradually vanish. The erstwhile bashful and aloof percussionist quickly becomes aware of the advantages of his new office, and begins to realise his increasingly ludicrous artistic ambitions. Ultimately, the submissive marionette turns into a source of public humiliation, and his astonishing career finds an abrupt end. Orchestra serves here as a microcosm that grotesquely reflects the absurd and tragicomic mechanisms of the paranoid apparatus of power.
