故事发生在清末民初，湖州织染巨头江余（刘恺威 饰）在一次偶然中同名叫彩虹（郑爽 饰）的少女相遇，彩虹的单纯和善良让江余感到十分心动，然而，彩虹是吴宏达的女儿，而吴宏达恰恰饰江家的世仇，无奈之下，江余只能将这份感情默默埋藏在心底。 彩虹的家里遭遇了变故，父亲不幸离世，彩虹认为这一切的罪魁祸首正是江余，她决心潜伏在江余身边，调查处事件的真相。为了将彩虹留在身边，江余威逼利诱，最终使彩虹成为了自己家用的佣人，尽管两人之间矛盾重重，但随着时间的推移，炙热的真心渐渐浮出水面，打动了彩虹，这一对苦命鸳鸯最终能否走到一起？。Each year, a father films his daughter on her birthday, asking her the same questions.
